Symptoms |
The input files pane sometimes shows the primary file name as an 8.3 file name (xxxxxxxx.xxx). Users of the NT client see the 8.3 name, but cannot find the 8.3 name in the file system. |

Cause |
When an input file is registered with a job, a corresponding "source element" is created in the database to represent the input file. The name of this source element is chosen by the Workshop: the name is the file's file name. (Note that when a page is re-refined, the Workshop implicitly registers the page's PDF file as an input file.) If a Mac Workshop registers an input file with a file name longer than 31 characters, the Mac Workshop "sees" the file name in its 8.3 form (i.e. the file name is 'Macified'), and this is the name it gives to the source element. When the NT Workshop views the list of input files, the name shows up as an 8.3 "primary file" name. The "primary file" name is really the source element name, which was determined by the Mac Workshop. |

Solution |
Use the CTRL i keyboard command to determine the full file name if it is required. Fixed in Prinergy 2.0. In this version, the server side fills in the name of the source element instead of the client side. Permanent fix: Prinergy 2.0 |
