Can't see Kodak Veris, Kodak Matchprint, or Kodak Proofing Software proofer in process template [ID: 82134]

Product

  • Kodak® Prinergy® 4.0.2.0 and earlier
  • Kodak Veris™ digital proofer
  • Kodak Matchprint® Inkjet proofer
  • Kodak Proofing Software

Symptoms

When you create a new process template for the Kodak Veris™ digital proofer or the Kodak Matchprint® Inkjet proofer, or you add a new Kodak proofer, the name of the proofing device is not listed on the Devices tab of the process template. The media size and proofer templates also do not appear correctly on the Layout tab.

Cause

The problem may be caused by any of the following possible causes:

Cause 1: The printer JTPs on the Prinergy primary server have a different list of available Kodak proofers than the printer JTPs on the secondary servers. This occurs because when proofers are added or removed in Prinergy Administrator, the only registry updated is the one on the local Prinergy server. (See Solution 1.)

Cause 2: The DNS (domain name server) name is configured incorrectly. (See Solution 2.)

Cause 3: A proofing pool is empty. (See Solution 3.)

Cause 4: Prinergy Administrator contains a host name that is not Kodak Proofing Software (KPS). (See Solution 4.)

Cause 5: The Windows Firewall software is running on the proofer server (KPS version 3.1.x only). See Solution 5.)

Cause 6: One or more of the proofers listed in Prinergy Administrator does not exist. (See Solution 6.)

Solution

Solution 1:

  1. In Prinergy Administrator, ensure that the Kodak Veris or Kodak Matchprint Inkjet proofer is listed:
    1. Open Prinergy Administrator.
    2. Select Tools > Configure System.
    3. Click the Veris Servers tab (Prinergy 3.x systems) or the Kodak Proofers tab (Prinergy 4.x systems).
    4. If the Kodak proofer is not listed, click Add.
    5. Select a proofer from the list, or type the UNC path (\\servername\sharename).
    6. Click OK twice.
    7. When the message to restart appears, click OK.
    8. Restart the server.
  2. If this is the first time that the Kodak proofer has been added, restart all proofing JTPs:
    1. In Prinergy Administrator, click the JTPs tab.
    2. Right-click a proofing JTP, and select Stop JTP. Wait a minute or so, and then right-click the same JTP and select Start JTP.
    3. Repeat for each proofing JTP.
  3. Edit the KPS layout in the process template:
    1. In Prinergy Workshop, open the process template (Tools > Process Template Editor).
    2. In the Render section of the process template, ensure that you have a single proofing JTP selected (no pools).
    3. In the Output To list at the top of the process template, select TIFF.
    4. In the Output To list, now select Veris/Matchprint Inkjet (Prinergy 3.x systems) or Kodak Proofers (KPS direct connect) (Prinergy 4.x systems).
    5. In the Device section, locate the Proofer name list. Ensure that the correct device is selected.
    6. In the Layout section, follow these steps:
      • Locate the Media Configuration list. Ensure that the correct media configuration is selected.
      • Locate the Proofer Layout list (Prinergy 3.x systems) or the Layout for Kodak Proofers list (Prinergy 4.x systems). Ensure that the correct layout is selected.
      • In the Media Configuration list, select any media configuration other than the correct one, and then select the correct media configuration again.
    7. Repeat the procedure for any secondary servers or render stations.

Solution 2: Ensure that the hosts files contain correct DNS names:

    1. On the Prinergy server, locate the following folder:
      • Windows 2000: D:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc
      • Windows 2003: D:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc
    2. Using the Notepad software, open the hosts file.
    3. Ensure that the controller's DNS name appears and is correct.
    4. Save the file.
    5. Repeat the procedure on the KPS controller.

Solution 3: Either remove the empty pool or add JTPs to the pool:

    1. In Prinergy Workshop, on the JTPs tab, select the name of the JTP pool.
    2. From the JTP menu, perform either of the following steps:
      • Select Remove JTP pool and click OK,
      • Select Add JTP and in the Selected JTPs in the pool box, select the check box beside each JTP that you want to add to this pool. Click OK.

Solution 4: Remove the non-KPS host name from the Prinergy server (see Solution 2), and then restart the proofer JTPs. (Right-click each JTP, select Stop JTP, and then Start JTP.)

Solution 5: (KPS version 3.1.x only) Shut down the Windows Firewall software on the proofer computer. For information, see the Windows Firewall documentation.

Solution 6: Remove all proofers, and then add them back from the list of available servers:

    1. Open Prinergy Administrator.
    2. Locate Tools > Configure System.
    3. Click the Veris Servers tab (Prinergy 3.x systems) or the Kodak Proofers tab (Prinergy 4.x systems).
    4. Select a proofer and click Remove. Repeat for each proofer in the list.
    5. Click Add and select a proofer from the list.

    6. Note: If the proofer that you want doesn't appear in the list, something is preventing the UDP network packets from being transferred between the controller and the Prinergy server. Try adding the proofer by name, using the format ControllerName/ProoferName. You must type the name correctly.
    7. Click OK.
    8. Repeat for each proofer.
