Error |

Symptoms |
The following message appears in a DOS window on the primary server: ORACLE Instance creo - Cannot allocate log. archival required. Press <ENTER> to acknowledge message. The user closes the window and Prinergy processes such as the Main Directory daemon crashes with a database error. |
Cause |
This message is generated by the Oracle database service (Oracle80.exe). Oracle is attempting to archive the online redo log files, but it is generating the redo log files faster than it can archive them. The archived log files are in an NT compressed folder and it takes longer to compress the archived log files than it does to write to the online redo log files. If the user closes the window using the Close button (X at the top right corner of the window), it actually terminates the Oracle80 process. Once Oracle is terminated, the Prinergy processes that are attempting to access the database will crash. |

Solution |
Do not close the window with the Close button. Instead, press Enter as suggested in the message. Install patch 98 as soon as possible. Patch 98 will virtually eliminate this message from appearing under normal operation. Permanent fix: Prinergy 1.1 |
