Error

Symptoms

The Legato server has been renamed, now Legato will not backup any servers.

Cause

If the server running the Legato services is renamed, the server entry and the server's indexes must be renamed in Legato.

Solution

Follow these procedures to create a new client and rename the client indexes for the server in Legato.

Reminder: The server is a client of itself.

Notes:

- This procedure is in the Legato Networker Administrator Help, under How Do I...

- If a Legato client (for example, a render station or secondary server) has been renamed, there is another procedure called "Legato won't back up a secondary server or render station whose name has been changed" (SYOA-0000138).

1. Shut down NetWorker services as administrator on the NetWorker server:

a) Open the Control Panel.

b) Double-click Services to open the Services dialog box.

c) Select NetWorker Backup and Recover and click Stop.

d) Click Close to close the Services dialog box.

2. Change the name of the server:

a) Go to Control Panel | Network.

b) Select the Protocols tab and double-click on TCP/IP protocol.

c) Select the DNS tab.

d) Enter the host name in the Host Name field then click OK.

3. Rename the old client index:

a) Open an MS-DOS window and change directories to the location where you installed NetWorker; typically C:\win32app\nsr.

b) Change directories to \nsr\index and use the ren command to rename the client index directory. For example, C:\win32app\nsr\index>ren <old_client_name><new_client_name>

4. Restart NetWorker services:

a) Open the Control Panel.

b) Double-click Services to open the Services dialog box.

c) Select NetWorker Backup and Recover Server and click Start.

d) Click Close to close the Services dialog box.

5. Delete the old client resource for the server.

6. Add the old client name (old server name) as an alias to the new client resource.

7. Shut down NetWorker services as administrator on the NetWorker server:

a) Open the Control Panel.

b) Double-click Services to open the Services dialog box.

c) Select NetWorker Backup and Recover and click Stop.

d) Click Close to close the Services dialog box.

8. Restart NetWorker services:

a) Open the Control Panel.

b) Double-click Services to open the Services dialog box.
