Datalog (E:) drive is full. How can I free up space?

Product

  Prinergy 1.1; Prinergy Connect 2.0

Platform

Operating system

Error

Symptoms

Prinergy fails when trying to generate output.

The Oracle database backup fails.

A DOS window with the message: 'Cannot allocate log. Archival required.' may appear on the server.

Cause

The E: drive is full and there is no more disk space left. The drive may be full with several months of Oracle archived log files accumulating in the E:\Orant\Oracle\ArchivedLogFiles folder or obsolete database backup sets in the E:\OracleBackup or E:\Orant\Oracle\ArchivedLogFiles\Backups folders due to the database backups failing to complete.

Solution

- To free up disk space, change the database backup destination to the RAID or some other drive with plenty of disk space.

For example, in OracleBackupManager, enter: ALTER BACKUP_DESTINATION = G:\ORACLEBACKUP

- Perform a database backup. The backup will automatically remove all the archived log files.

- In OracleBackupManager, enter: BACKUP DATABASE.

- Check that the database backup completed successfully.

- If necessary remove any obsolete database backup sets from the E: drive.

- Go to the folder where the backups were being originally written to and delete the files that are appended with _MARKED_PENDING_OBSOLETE.

- Move the database backup folder back to the E: drive.

- In OracleBackupManager, enter: ALTER BACKUP_DESTINATION = <original backup path> (substitute with the original path for the database backups).

- Perform another database backup.

- In OracleBackupManager, enter: BACKUP DATABASE.
