Symptoms |
The customer has an ATL library with DLT 7000 drives that are used for archiving and system backups. The system backups are failing and the message in the NTBackup log file shows: The device reported an error on a request to read data from the media. Error reported: Invalid command. |
Cause |
The archiver switches the drive's blocksize setting to 16 KB when it archives. NTBackup, when used with a DLT 7000 drive with firmware version 101, appears to have problems switching the blocksize back to 64 KB. NTBackup attempts to read the header on the tape but since the blocksize is set to 16 KB, it cannot read the header. |

Solution |
Upgrade the drive firmware to v105 for ATL P1000 DLT 7000 tape library. Temporary workaround: If you reset the tape drive by powering the drive off/on, the tape drive will return to the default blocksize of 64 KB. If the customer has a standalone DLT 7000 drive, they could use that for system backups until a solution is found. Note: You should use the same capacity drive as the original drive if possible. This would simplify returning the tapes into the library when the problem is fixed. Permanent fix: |
