Windows NT or Windows 2000 takes a long time to shut down

Product

  Prinergy 1.1; Prinergy Connect 2.0

Platform

All

Operating system

Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000; Macintosh

Error

Symptoms

If you try to reboot the server, Windows NT sits at the message 'Please wait while the system writes unsaved data to the disk' for an unusually long time and does not appear to be responding.

Cause

Services for Mac (SFM) is writing out Mac volume information to disk and can take several minutes or up to an hour or more, depending upon the size of the Mac volume on disk.

If you cycle the power or reset the system while the system is writing to disk, you may corrupt the volume. On the next restart, NT will run chkdsk, which may take several hours to run.

Solution

Do NOT power cycle or reset the system, wait until the system shuts down by itself.
