Solution |
The Python script Snapshot.cmd can provide a method of capturing and saving the log files for you. You will then be able to dial in several hours afterwards and still be able to get the logs which occurred during the failure event. (The link to Snapshot.cmd is in the See Also section of this workaround.) The options availabile in Snapshot are: * -find <message_text> ---- Only gather logs if <message_text> is found. * You can specify more than one message if desired. * -run <utility> --------------- Run an additional utility. * You can run more than one utility if desired. * -log <snapshot_folder> --- Save snapshots to the folder <snapshot_folder>. * -file <file_name> ----------- Log output from utilities to <file_name>. Default is %COMPUTERNAME%_Info.txt. * -size <max_size_in_MB> -- Maximum disk space (in MB) used for snapshots. Default is 100 MB. * -? -h -help ------------------- Help screen. To use Snapshot.cmd: 1) Create a folder called Snapshot on the server that you are diagnosing. 2) Copy the Snapshot.cmd utility into the Snapshot folder. 3) Create a scheduled task in Windows 2000 that runs the Snapshot command every hour. You can schedule the utility to run for several days or weeks depending upon how you set up the schedule. - Click Settings -> Control Panel -> Scheduled Tasks -> Add Scheduled Task. - In the Scheduled Task Wizard, select Snapshot.cmd and set it to run Daily. - Check the "Open Advanced Properties for this task when I click Finish" checkbox. - In the Task tab, append the switches you wish to use in the Run box. - In the Schedule tab, click on Advanced... - Check the End Date and enter an ending date. Check the Repeat task checkbox and enter Every 1 hour. Enter 24 hours into Duration. - Click OK to save the task. 4) The Snapshot utility will create a subfolder called Snapshot_Results and save a zipped copy of the log files. The Snapshot utility will only save new and previously unsaved Araxi log files. These log files will accumulate in the Snapshot_Results folder. The Snapshot_Results folder size is limited to 100 MB by default. All older log files will be automatically deleted until the Snapshot_Results folder is below the limit. The size of the folder can be changed if desired. 5) To view the options for the utility, enter: SNAPSHOT -?. Permanent fix: |
