Error |
Error in line 259 in Z:\Creolib\Common\perf.cpp |
Symptoms |
This problem may exhibit different symptoms. 1. Prinergy Administrator only shows 6 or 7 processes running on the server, however Prinergy is running without any problems and all the processes appear in Task Manager. or 2. Prinergy will start and immediately stop. UADM will not show any processes starting. or 3. If you run Araxi.exe at the command prompt, you may see the error: Error in line 259 in Z:\Creolib\Common\perf.cpp or 4. If you run Performance Monitor, the Performance Objects will appear as numbers instead of text. or 5. The performance objects Process and Thread are missing in Performance Monitor. |
Cause |
Araxi.exe uses performance counters to enumerate the processes running on the system. The performance object Process is required to enumerate the processes. Either the Process performance object is disabled or there may be some corruption in the performance counters. The performance counters may have been disabled using the utility Resource Kit utility EXCTRLST.EXE, or the counters may have become corrupted (this can happen after uninstalling Hummingbird NFS or uninstalling IIS). |

Solution |
First check to see if the counters have been disabled, if so, re-enable them. Either run EXCTRLST.EXE and re-enable the counters or Go into RegEdit and navigate to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\PerfProc\Performance. If the registry value DisablePerformanceCounter exists, set it to 0 and reboot the server. If the performance counters are corrupted, use the following procedure to rebuild the performance counters. 1. Expand the Perfc009.da_ file and the Perfh009.da_ from the Windows 200 cd: a) Open a Command Prompt window. b) Enter: EXPAND H:\I386\Perfc009.da_ D:\Temp\Perfc009.dat c) Enter: EXPAND H:\I386\Perfh009.da_ D:\Temp\Perfh009.dat d) Replace the two files from the D:\Winnt\System32 folder with the two expanded files. 2. In the registry key HKLM\\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib, change the LastCounter value to 1846 and the LastHelp value to 1847 (decimal). 3. Start Regedit. Starting at HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\, search for the key name "Performance". In Regfind's Find dialog box, you can uncheck Values and Data and just search for Keys with the name Performance. For each service that has the registry subkey Performance: a) Within the Performance key, delete the following values if they exist: - FirstCounter - FirstHelp - LastCounter - LastHelp *** The system now is configured with the system base counters. You must now add the extensible counters. 4. Reload the performance counters. a) In a command prompt window, CD to \Winnt\System32. b) Enter Findstr /I /C:"drivername=" *.ini. c) In a command prompt window, CD to the \Winnt\System32 directory, and run: - FOR /F %A IN ('findstr /I /M /C:"drivername=" *.ini') DO lodctr %A d) If you have errors loading the IIS counters, run: - unlodctr w3svc - unlodctr msftpsvc - unlodctr asp - unlodctr inetinfo - lodctr w3ctrs.ini - lodctr ftpctrs.ini - lodctr axperf.ini - lodctr infoctrs.ini 5. Re-boot the server. See the Microsoft Knowledge base articles below for more information on reloading the performance counters: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=300956 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;267831 Permanent fix: |
