Error |

Symptoms |
After a failed initial install, the second install works but the Main Directory and File Register daemons fail to start correctly. (The initial Prinergy installation failed because the PATH variable was too long. The second installation was successful after you fixed the path.) |

Cause |
The environment PATH variable is too long. Under NT, the length of environment variables cannot exceed a certain number of characters. If you have installed a number of things on the system, it is possible that the PATH environment variable could get very long. When you install Prinergy, the installer checks for the length of the path variable before it updates it; it will complain that the PATH environment variable is too long and the installer will exit. Howerver, the installer has a bug where it does not bother to update the PATH with the Oracle directory if it appears that Oracle is already installed (I guess it uses the Registry). If the Oracle directory is not in the path, then these two Prinergy components will not be able to startup. |

Solution |
Shut down Prinergy and add the Oracle directory to the PATH variable. It will most likely be in E:\Orant\bin. Permanent fix: |
