Symptoms |
You have an 8-bit grayscale file out of Photoshop 5.5 saved as a TIFF, which you have placed in a Quark 4.1 file. The background of the picture box is set to PMS color. You refine the file (or refined and color match), and the black always knocks out the PMS background. |

||
Cause |
Quark does not save the overprint flags correctly for grayscale images. This can be seen by using PitStop Inspector on the images and inspecting the overprint characteristics. | |

||
Solution |
There is currently no automatic way inside Prinergy to correct this. However, using PitStop Inspector to manually set the overprint attribute on the grayscale image in the PDF will result in the correct behavior (i.e. image overprinting on top of spot color). Regular CMYK black objects created in Quark (for example, filled vector boxes) do have their overprint characteristics correctly saved. Permanent fix: |
