Symptoms |
The imaging quality is poor on a VLF at 150 lpi with 1200 dpi. NOTE: This only has a quality impact on people making continuous-tint backgrounds or fills that are much larger than 32x44. Someone using a VLF-sized plate to make a 32-up plate will not see any discernable quality effects. For a 58x80 fill, the CMK rosettes will drift from clear-centered at the center of the plate to filled at the corners, shifting the tone as a result. NOTE: This does NOT affect the 150 lpi at 2400 dpi screen – only at 1200 dpi. |

Cause |
In order to make the 150 lpi at 1200 dpi screen fit into RIP memory more comfortably, the screen's size has been reduced. Using the initial search results, this resulted in a screen with a 103" rosette period, which meets the quarter-period from center criterion for 32x44 plates, but not for the larger 58x80 VLF plates. | |

Solution |
Image at 2400 dpi instead. There is no speed advantage to imaging at 1200 dpi, so use 2400 dpi to avoid the problem and get better image quality. Permanent fix: |
