Symptoms |
Note that this occurs only when running on a Mac: If a file with a name longer than 31 characters is registered with a job, it is displayed in the storage tab as an 8.3 (xxxxxxxx.xxx) name corresponding to the name that appears in the finder. However if that job is archived and then purged, its name is displayed in the storage tab as the full (31+ character) name. If the job is then retrieved, the file is displayed as an 8.3 name again (matching what the finder displays). This change in the file name may be disconcerting to a user. |

Cause |
This happens because when the file with the long name is online, the server side can translate the file name to the short 8.3 name for the Mac client. However, when the file is not online, it is not possible to translate the file name to Mac flavor, so the untranslated (long) name is returned to the Mac client. | |
