Oracle 10g setup fails with the error 0xc0000006 [ID: 82018]

Product

Kodak® Prinergy® 4.x

Error

0xc0000006

Symptoms

The installer Oracle 10g setup.exe fails and the error 0xc0000006 appears. The system is unable to load a dll file or to find the response file, even though it is there.

Cause

You have mapped the network drive to a share on the same server. This is not a reliable approach. Instead, you should either:

  • Map the drive to a share on another server

  • Or,
  • Use a substitute drive on the local server.

Solution

Instead of mapping a drive, use the subst command.

  • Open a command prompt and type:
    subst u: j:\oracleinstaller

  • where u: is the substitute drive. (It doesn't matter which drive letter you use as the substitute drive.)

When you run the PPU utility (ppu.exe) and it prompts you for the Oracle installation path, type the drive letter of the substitute drive. The Oracle software will now install properly.
