Cause |
|
A known problem in the Oracle® 8.16 software causes this. It is not caused by the Prinergy software.
An update from Oracle fixes the problem. The update has been found to be stable at several customer sites, but should be installed only if it is actually needed, because it is difficult to remove. The update installer does not have an automated uninstaller; you must remove the update manually.
You must do a manual backup of the database before installing the update. If you need to restore the original Oracle configuration, the process is completely manual.

To install the Oracle update:
Important: Contact a service representative. Do not install the Oracle update until a support specialist or someone from the product development team (Stan Yoshida, Robyn Lundstrom, or Amy Chan) gives you the go-ahead.
Important: Read the instructions through twice before starting. If you don't understand something, don't start!
- End any database replication (VSR or Doubletake).
- Upload the patchset to the customer's system. It will take a while, as it is 64MB. The patchset is located at
\\cscfile1\RC_Common\TeamResources\Systems\Tools\Oracle\Oracle8.1.6.3.0Patchset.
- On the server desktop, right-click My Computer, and select Manage.
- In the Computer Management dialog box, locate Services and Applications > Services.
- Stop Prinergy and Oracle.
- Right-click Araxi, and select Stop.
- Right-click OracleServiceCreo, and select Stop.
- Make a backup copy of the D:\Ora816 folder.
- Make a backup copy of the D:\Program Files\Oracle folder.
- Extract the update file: p1650087_8163_WINNT.zip.
- Run the self-extracting WinNT_81630_patchset.exe file and extract the contents to a folder.
- Run the Oracle Universal Installer wizard (OUI).
It is located at Programs > Oracle Installation Products > Universal Installer.
- In the OUI wizard, click Next.
- On the File Locations screen:
- In the Source area, locate the folder where you extracted the update, and locate \Disk1\stage\.
- In the File Name area, select the products.jar file, and click Open.
- In the Destinations area, make sure that
CREO appears and the correct path: D:\Ora816.
- Click Next to install the update.
- If any files report that they cannot be updated because they are in use, locate them using Windows Explorer and rename them to
filename.old.
- Restart Oracle and Prinergy.
- In the Computer Management dialog box, right-click OracleServiceCreo, and select Restart.
- Right-click Araxi, and select Restart.
To uninstall the update (if necessary):
