Job name in Print Console queue consists of dashes instead of a name; plating stops

Product

  • Kodak® Prinergy® Connect 4.0.2.2 and earlier
  • Kodak Prinergy Evo™ 4.0.6.0 and earlier
  • Kodak Print Console 4.8.1.11 and earlier

Error

On the Prinergy computer, in the Printer JTP log file, or in the Microsoft® Windows® Application Event log: "E 31Jul07 13:10:31.375: PSRMRSTR HW05097::JPrinterJTP.exe(10096) BufferMgr.cpp 3616 0 Fail to reserve virtual raster buffer of 545259584 bytes. Error code: 8" and 100160 with 100167, or simply 100167 only.

The Print Console logs would contain information similar to the following.

For the 100167 file-mapping error: E 16Nov06 20:10:13.250: PSRMRSTR APL-HAL-9000::JPrinterJTP.exe(2396) RSTRcomm.cpp 1104 0 Error mapping file view, error code: 8
I 16Nov06 20:10:13.250: PSRMRSTR APL-HAL-9000::JPrinterJTP.exe(2396) RSTRcomm.cpp 1607 0 Disconnect FC, reason code: 100167, retry: 0

For the fail to reserve virtual raster buffer error (dual head devices only): E 31Jul07 13:10:31.375: PSRMRSTR HW05097::JPrinterJTP.exe(10096) BufferMgr.cpp 3616 0 Fail to reserve virtual raster buffer of 545259584 bytes. Error code: 8

There will also be a line including the error code: 100347.

Symptoms

Print Console stops outputting plates and the Print Console interface shows a series of dashes (for example, -------) instead of a meaningful job name (for example, RMN_CBK_K001_1021_00549). The Windows Application Event log and the Prinergy Printer JTP log show a message indicating that the Printer JTP could not access the raster buffer.

Cause

Turning the device on and off many times causes a memory fragmentation issue in which the Printer JTP cannot access a contiguous block of 64 megabytes of memory. This, in turn, causes plate output to stop.

Solution

For Prinergy Evo systems:

  1. Upgrade to Prinergy Evo 4.0.6.3 or later.
  2. After completing the upgrade, in %JASPERHOME%\config_data\System\common\config.txt, add the line Jasper.GDEN.GDEN_UnloadGDAPIDll=0 to the config.txt file.

If you are unable upgrade to Prinergy Evo 4.0.6.3 or later, the workaround is avoid turning the device on and off. If you do encounter the problem by turning the device on and off, restart the server.

For Prinergy Connect 4.0.2.2 and later systems only:

  1. Using RegEdit, locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Creo\Araxi\Settings\Default\GDEN.
  2. Add a new DWORD value, GDEN_UnloadGDAPIDll, and set its value to 0.
  3. Restart the Printer JTP.
