During tertiary server failover, cannot access the tertiary server from a secondary server that is used for job replication

Product

Kodak® Prinergy® 3.x, 4.x

Operating system

Microsoft® Windows Server® 2003

Error

Access denied
No network provider accepted the given network path

Symptoms

Your main tertiary server fails, and you switch to a secondary server that has job data replicated to it (it is used as a redundant storage server). While in failover mode, Prinergy tasks that are processed by a JTP on the secondary server fail, because the files cannot be found.

You try unsuccessfully to connect to the tertiary server using its host name. You are able to connect using its IP address.

Note: You have no problem connecting to the tertiary server from other servers, except for the server used as the tertiary failover.

One or more of the following authentication problems may appear:

  • Access denied error message
  • No network provider accepted... error message
  • Event ID 537 in the Security event log
  • Repeated logon windows (no user/password combination can be authenticated)

Cause

Microsoft introduced a security feature in Windows Server 2003 SP1 called loopback check functionality. By default, loopback check functionality is turned on.

Solution

Disable the authentication loopback check.

  1. From the Start menu, select Run.
  2. Type regedit and click OK.
  3. Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\.
  4. Right-click the Lsa folder, select New, and then select DWORD Value.
  5. Type DisableLoopbackCheck.
  6. Right-click DisableLoopbackCheck and select Modify.
  7. In the Value data box, type 1, and click OK.
  8. Close the Registry Editor.
  9. Restart the computer.
