Some spot colors in marks need to be manually mapped

Product

Kodak® Prinergy® Connect™, version 4.0.2.1 or later

Operating system

  • Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows Server® 2003

Symptoms

You have a spot color in a mark that is named Spot1. The Prinergy system automatically maps Spot1 to the first color in the job (and Spot2 to the second color in the job, and so on), but the customer wants to map those spot colors manually.

Cause

The mapping of spot colors in marks is handled differently in Prinergy 4.0 or later than in previous Prinergy versions. By default, all spot colors on imposition marks are now automatically mapped to the spot colors in the job.

Solution

Adjust the Prinergy registry settings to allow you to map the spot colors manually.

  1. Select Start > Run, type regedt32, and click OK.
  2. In the Registry Editor window, locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\creo\araxi\settings\default\JOBD.
  3. Change the settings as required:
    • ExcludeMarksColorsFromMappingToSpotColors

    • Change this setting to disable the mapping of only one color, such as Dieline. You can also use this setting to disable the mapping of all colors in marks that have a common name.

For example, if you add Spot to the list of excluded colors, Spot1, Spot2, Spot3 and so on are not automatically mapped to spot colors in the job. If you add cf2 to the list of excluded colors, dies from Pandora such as 2x3_die.cf2, Dieline_1000.cfs, and so on are not automatically mapped to spot colors in the job.

      Do the following steps:
      1. Right-click ExcludeMarksColorsFromMappingToSpotColors, and select Modify.
      2. In the Value data box, type the names to exclude, separated by a semi-colon (;). For example, cf2;spot

    • MapMarksColorToTransparentSpotColors

    • Change this setting if you've already defined colors in the color database as transparent to prevent them from interacting with your other colors, and do not want to map those colors (such as Varnish).
      Do the following steps:
      1. Right-click MapMarksColorToTransparentSpotColors, and select Modify.
      2. In the Value data box (multi-string value), type:

      3. 1 to allow automatic mapping of transparent colors
0 to stop the automatic mapping of transparent colors
Note: If the registry key only contains a comment, not a registry entry, add a multi-string value entry (Edit > New > Multi-String Value) before doing the steps.

    • MapMarksColorToSpotColors Setting

    • Change this setting if you never want any of your colors from layouts to be mapped automatically to colors in your artwork. Do the following steps:
      1. Right-click MapMarksColorToSpotColors, and select Modify.
      2. In the Value data box (multi-string value), type:

      3. 1 to turn the feature on
0 to turn the feature off
Note: If the registry key only contains a comment, not a registry entry, add a multi-string value entry (Edit > New > Multi-String Value) before doing the steps.
  4. Close the Registry Editor window.
  5. In Task Manager, restart the PJobD process.
  6. Restart Prinergy Workshop.
  7. In Prinergy Administrator, restart the Marks JTP.
