Unable to create custom database reports

Product

Kodak® Prinergy® Connect™, version 4.x

Operating system

  • Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows Server® 2003

Symptoms

You are unable to create a custom report using the Custom Database Reporting (CDBR) feature in Prinergy 4.x.

Cause

Your third-party reporting software is not connected to the Oracle® database.

Solution

Perform the following steps to connect your third-party reporting software to the Oracle database:

Note: This procedure applies to the Business Objects Crystal Reports® reporting software. If you use other reporting software, adapt the steps to match your software.

Prerequisites

  • A Prinergy CDBR license

  • Note: Kodak does not provide direct support for CDBR. Support is limited to the documentation in the Administrator Help.
  • Third-party database reporting software, such as the Crystal Reports reporting software, version 10 or later.
  • Oracle Instant Client software, which you can install by double-clicking x:\OracleClient_10.2.0\setup.exe on the Oracle DVD in the Prinergy installation DVD set (where x is the letter of your DVD-ROM drive)
  • Knowledge of relational databases, and experience working with them

Connecting the Third-Party Reporting Software to the Oracle Database

  1. On a client computer, start the Crystal Reports software and create a blank report.

  2. Note: Avoid running reports on the primary server because it reduces the server's performance.
  3. In the Database Expert dialog box, in the Available Data Sources area, click + beside Oracle Server.

  4. The Oracle Server dialog box appears.
    1. In the Service box, type server/AraxiDB (where server is the name of the primary server.
    2. In the User ID box and Password box, type prinergy_rpt.
    3. Click Finish.
  5. If an ORA-12705 error appears, ensure that the computer on which you run the reports has a language registry setting that matches the setting on the primary server:
  6. Important: If you are not familiar with using the Registry Editor, contact your service representative for help with editing the registry key. If you use the Registry Editor incorrectly, you can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Kodak does not guarantee that problems caused by incorrect use of the Registry Editor can be resolved; use it at your own risk.

    1. Open the Registry Editor on the primary server and locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE.
    2. Identify and make a note of the value for NLS_LANG. For example, the value may be AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8.
    3. Close the Registry Editor.
    4. Open the Registry Editor on the client computer and locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\KEY_ARAXI.
    5. Change the NLS_LANG value to match that of the primary server.
    6. Close the Registry Editor.
  7. In the Database Expert dialog box, in the Available Data Sources area, locate Oracle Server\PRINERGY_RPT\Views.
  8. Select the views that you want to use in the report and move them to the Selected Tables list. Click OK.

CDBR uses database views, which are dynamic, virtual tables that provide read-only access to the database. The CDBR views exactly match the underlying database tables. The names of the views match the tables, but they start with a RPT_ prefix (to indicate “reporting”) and end with a _V suffix (to indicate a “view”). The views and the documentation about them are generated automatically from the database.
