File cannot be found or file is in use errors on a Mac OS X server [ID: 82172]

Product

Kodak® Prinergy® Connect™, version 4.x

Platform

Apple® Mac OS® X server

Operating system

Mac OS X, version 10.4.x

Error

The file "\\CLEPREP01\AraxiVolume_GLI Jobs\jobs\JU0YWR~6\System\SCNBVX~G\NKRA45~C\TT9WKV~3.PDF" is busy or locked; The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

Note the ~ errors in the file paths and names. In the Mac environment, these are known as mangled files.

Symptoms

The PDF files located on a Mac OS X server (refine, color match, and trap) fail to process, and the error message appears. The problem may occur every time you try to perform this task or intermittently. A similar error message appears when you open the job folder or the PDF file using Prinergy Workshop.

Cause

By default, the Mac OS X server stores file names in this mangled format.

Solution

Make the following change on the Mac OS X server:

  1. Locate /private/etc/.
  2. Open the smb.conf file in a text editor.
  3. Add this line in the globals section:
    mangled files = no
  4. Restart the smb services.

Keywords
