Heidelberg Fogra imposition spot color converts to process color in Prinergy imposed output

Product

  Kodak® Prinergy® Connect™ version 4.0 (CPSI RIP)

Symptoms

You create an imposition from Kodak Preps® digital imposition software using the standard Heidelberg® Fogra colorbar. The colorbar also has a “dummy” spot color.

After importing the imposition in Prinergy, you manually map the “dummy” spot color to the actual spot color of the refined pages—for example, RefinedpageSpot.

On the resulting output (proof or plate), the color RefinedpageSpot is converted to process color (CMYK) in the Heidelberg Fogra colorbar.

Cause

There is an issue with the Heidelberg FograMark and CPSI RIP. The problem arises when PostScript® (spot color) objects in a file are ignored by the Kodak Color Matcher engine. When color mapping, the Color Matcher engine only converts PDF objects and ignores PostScript objects. The RIP thinks the spot color still exists and converts the color to which it is mapped to process color.

Solution

Add a registry setting in ADBR called ADBR_AllowPassThru. The default setting is true, which will allow PostScript objects to pass through.

To prevent spot colors from being converted to process color on output:

  1. In the Registry Editor, locate Creo > Araxi > Settings > Default > ADBR.
  2. Set the ADBR_AllowPassThru value to false (0).
  3. Restart the server.
