Background |
This is a sample file storage and folder structure that maximizes system performance and consistency. Prinergy Evo is flexible enough that you may not want to use this exact structure, the Prinergy Evo System Administration Guide, Chapter 5, has more information on how you could set up a file structure to meet your needs. This procedure uses Prinergy Evo's relative output paths, see the Prinergy Evo Client online help for details on this feature if you have not used it before. |

Procedure |
In the JobData
folder, create directories and name them based on customer names or
tracking numbers.
For example, if you have a customer job with a docket number: 22-527 for Acme Supplies, make a folder in the main directory of JobData called 22-527_AcmeSupplies. In this folder, create the folders Application_Files and Input_Files. If you create imposition files from qualified software (for example, Preps), create a folder Imposition_Files. If you work with thin PostScript and OPI, make an Images directory as well. If you work with files that don't have all fonts embedded, create a Fonts directory. Use the folder: Application_Files to store native documents and support files from your desktop applications, such as QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign, and so on. Input_Files to store PostScript printed to file or PDF files you want to submit to Prinergy Evo's refine process. Imposition_Files to store PJTF and JDF imposition or layout files. Images to store hi-resolution images for OPI replacement for the particular process. Fonts to store fonts used in the input files, but not embedded in them. TIP: In order to save time creating your JobData folder structure, once you have created an initial job or docket folder with the relevant subfolders, make a copy of the job or docket folder and rename it to the required new job or docket name. Once your directory structure is set up, you can configure your process templates with relative output paths, which will enable you to reuse your process templates without having to change the output paths for each process you want to submit. Important: You can only use relative file paths if you submit your files via the Template Palette or File menu submission channels. Relative output paths in process templates attached to Hot Folder and Virtual Printers do not work because the input file is not within the job folder structure. In the case of the Hot Folder and Virtual Printers, the input file is inside one of the work folders. Therefore, Prinergy Evo will be placed the output files somewhere relative to the work folder and not the JobData folder subfolders. We recommend that when submitting input files to Prinergy Evo via Hot Folder or Virtual Printer submission channels, type a direct output path in the Device Path box in the Processed File Preferences section in the process template dialog box.
Using the double dots (..) instructs Prinergy Evo to go one directory level higher from the folder that the input file came from and then to look in a particular directory. If a directory specified in the Processed File Preferences sections, Device Path box, in a either a Refine to PDF or output process template does not exist, Prinergy Evo automatically creates the directory. Submit your input files from the relevant Input_Files folder. The Refined_Files folder stores the refined PDF files made from the input files. You can also configure your output process templates with relative output paths. For example, to organize your virtual proof output.
Using relative output paths helps keep Prinergy Evo's job folders organized, and makes it easy for you to work within the JobData folders because they are self-contained and portable. This also means that after the process is imaged, you can archive the entire folder (to DVD, tape, CD and so on). Archiving the entire folders enables you to easily reproduce or re-use the process later as all the required files are archived together in one folder. |
