Problems with Prinergy and Prinergy Evo co-existing on the same computer

Product

All versions of Prinergy® Evo

Operating system

Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Server

Error

If you install both Prinergy and Prinergy Evo on the same computer, you will probably have issues with the two  software applications co-existing. The main issue is that if both are simultaneously running, they fight for some of the same resources and neither function correctly.

Symptoms

Errors appear from both Prinergy and Prinergy Evo stating that the floating license manager, diagnostic daemon, and so on, failed to start.

Cause

Prinergy and Prinergy Evo utilize some of the same components. Therefore there is contention if both startup simultaneously.

Solution

Ensure only one of Prinergy or Prinergy Evo is running at the same time.

To ensure only one application is running:

Set each of the software's services to startup manually (the default configuration for each is to start the services automatically).

  1. On the Prinergy Evo Server computer desktop, right-click My Computer.
  2. Select Manage.
  3. In the Computer Management dialog box, select Services and Applications>Services.
  4. In the Services list, double-click each of the following services and in the Properties dialog box, General tab, Start up type list, select Manual.
    • Araxi
    • Creo Floating License Manager
    • Prinergy Evo Local
    • Prinergy Evo Network
  5. Start either Prinergy or Prinergy Evo from the  Administrator dialog box (that is, Prinergy Administrator or Prinergy Evo Administrator dialog box, respectively).
  6. To switch between running Prinergy and Prinergy Evo, from the Prinergy Administrator dialog box, shut down the Prinergy software.
  7. From the Prinergy Evo Administrator dialog box, start the Prinergy Evo Server software.
