Licensed fonts may not work after reinstalling Windows operating systems on server computers, or the Prinergy Evo dongle is changed

Product

  All versions of Prinergy® Evo

Operating system

Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Server

Error

Licensed fonts (for example, many Asian language fonts) will not work after the Windows operating system is reinstalled on Prinergy Evo Server computers, or the Prinergy Evo dongle is changed.

Symptoms

After a Prinergy Evo Server computer operating system upgrade (via reinstall), or when the dongle is replaced, fonts cease to work.

Cause

Prinergy Evo's font licensing system uses both the dongle ID and the system ID to create a unique ID that is specific to the server. This font licensing system prevents you from installing a font on two servers and moving the dongle back and forth. The system ID is a unique ID generated during installation of the operating system.

If you upgrade your server operating system as a clean install (typically, the preferred method), a new system ID is generated. This means that your licensed fonts will no longer work.

If the Prinergy Evo dongle fails and must be replaced, the new dongle has a new dongle ID, which means that your licensed fonts will no longer work.

Solution

If you upgrade your operating system as a clean install, make sure to contact your font vendor for an updated font license.

Alternately, upgrade the Windows operating system using the Microsoft upgrade option. The system ID should remain the same.

If your dongle has stopped working:

  1. Order a new Prinergy Evo dongle.
  2. Contact your font vendor for updated font licenses.
  3. Reinstall the fonts with the new dongle.
