Error

When you create output from a PDF file refined from a Quark 7 PDF file, you may see an error: PDF to PostScript conversion has reported the following: Font download failed.

Symptoms

Quark 7 PDF files work fine during the refine process and Kodak Preps digital imposition software can create an imposition file. However, the resulting PJTF file cannot be output to a Virtual Proofing System file, plate, proof, and so on. If you submit the refined PDF file directly to output, the software displays the same error.

Solution

Prinergy Evo 3.1.6.x and later handles the file without the error. As a workaround for Prinergy Evo 3.0.6.x and earlier, you can select Convert Text to Paths in the Render section in an output process template. You can also produce PostScript instead of a PDF file using the Retain PostScript for later Distilling in the QuarkXPress PFD settings.
