Relative paths used with hot folders can cause hot folders
to stop working

Product

All versions of Kodak Prinergy Evo

Symptoms

Hot folders occasionally go “cold” or stop processing files.

Cause

Inappropriate files and folders can be submitted to hot folders if input relative output paths are used with hot folders without care. For example, within a hot folder, processing is performed in a folder called Working, which is where the system expects file(s) to originate. If you have a refine process template that sends its output to ..\Refined, a folder named Refined will be created within the main hot folder location. The Refined folder is not an acceptable input file for a hot folder. If this happens too often, the hot folder may stop responding.

Solution

For a process template that will be used with a hot folder, always use input relative paths that target the Output folder within a hot folder. This practice also applies to the first step in a workflow template that is connected to a hot folder. For example, when working with a refine process template, you should use a path such as, ..\Output\RefinedFiles. This sends the refined pages to \Output\RefinedFiles and keeps the main hot folder location free of problematic files.

For subsequent steps, you can use ..\ because the path is most important in the first process template that is linked to a hot folder.
