Symptoms

Text with the Bevel and Emboss transparency effect applied in Adobe^® InDesign^® CS3 software appears very blocky when output with the Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) RIP.

The following image shows good output (by selecting Flatten to PDF 1.3 in the refine process template):

The following image shows unexpected output (by selecting APPE in an output process template):

Cause

The APPE RIP contains a limitation that introduces the blocky output.

Solution

Select Flatten to PDF 1.3 in the refine process template or output the file using the CPSI RIP.
