Unknown error [-9589]

Symptoms

When you try to open a QuarkXPress 4.x or 5.x file in QuarkXPress 6.0, sometimes Unknown error [9589] appears.

Solution

To avoid the error message, perform the following workaround:

1. Select Applications > Utilities > Print Center,
   or in case of Mac OS 10.3 (Panther), select Printer Setup Utility.
2. In the Printer List dialog box, click Add.
3. Select IP Printing from the menu at the top.
4. Type 127.0.0.1 in the Printer's Address box.
5. Click Add.
6. Select the printer 127.0.0.1 from the Printer List, and click Make Default.

After setting 127.0.0.1 as the default printer, you should have no problem opening legacy files in QuarkXPress 6.0.

It is also recommended to download the latest printer drivers and PPDs for your printers. Once these files are updated, legacy files can successfully be opened in QuarkXPress 6.0.
