Synapse TeamWorks/EyeMedia 1.0.3 Limitations - User Interface

Product

  • Synapse® TeamWorks
  • Synapse® EyeMedia

Platform

All platforms

Operating system

All operating systems

Symptoms

The 1.0.3 release of Synapse TeamWorks/EyeMedia has the following limitations:

  • Empty folders cannot be downloaded or uploaded.
  • Files cannot be moved directly into a third-party storage application.
  • User groups cannot be created.
  • Online help is incomplete.
  • The user interface is in English only.
  • Upload Details
    • Some upload processing details are not displayed to the user. For example, when thumbnail generation fails because a PostScript® file does not have fonts embedded (such as a QuarkXPress® .eps file), Synapse TeamWorks/EyeMedia does not report the error.
    • Auto-refresh does not work in some cases. For example, when using a Safari web browser (1.3 v312), the browser does not automatically refresh after an upload. When using Synapse Desktop, auto-refresh does not work during the first upload to a project or library.
  • File formats
    • Elements are opened in their native application according to the file extension. Users cannot specify an application that they want the system to use.
    • Monotones, tritones and quadtones in EPS files do not get correct thumbnails and do not display properly in Smart Review (they look grey).
    • Some options within file formats (such as LZW compression in a TIFF file) are not handled properly. The user often does not see an error message.
    • CT/LW files are not supported.
    • The clipping paths in TIFF and EPS elements do not appear in the FPO version.
  • Multi-page files
    • Multiple-page files in native applications (such as QuarkXPress or Adobe® InDesign®) are not supported. Users cannot see thumbnails or open them in Smart Review.
    • The first page of a multiple-page PDF file displays in a thumbnail but cannot be opened in Smart Review. Users cannot see thumbnails of other pages in the file and cannot open them in Smart Review.
  • Customers
    • The Customers view (seen only by staff users and multi-customer users) does not show any summary information about projects and libraries.
    • The Customer Administration view does not show any information about projects/libraries, and does not show project/library user rights.
  • Jobs
    • Job codes and project codes are not available as attributes.
    • Pages cannot be put into a pick list.
    • Files cannot be transferred between projects and jobs, or between libraries and jobs.
    • Approval/review workflow is not supported.
    • The Upload Details view is truncated so it is difficult to see the entire message.
Synapse Desktop version only
  • User access to projects and libraries can only be set in the web version.
  • Synapse Desktop does not support access through web proxy servers.
  • Some features, such as search, may not work for MCUs.
  • Uploads
    • If a user uploads a file using Synapse Desktop and then cancels/restarts it, the upload may fail. (This feature is not available in the web version.)
    • The pop-up (or 'growl') notifications that display when an upload or download is complete may contain incorrect information.
  • Search and pick lists
    • Attributes cannot be viewed in a pick list or in search results when multiple elements are selected. (Attributes can be viewed in the normal folder/element view.)
    • Using the same search parameter multiple times will cause an error.
    • Searches for elements in jobs may time out if the Prinergy system has many pages.
Web version only
  • All of the tools in the Operations Palette (left side toolbar) appear as enabled at all times—even when an operation is not available to the user. The icon is not greyed out (disabled). When a user clicks the icon, an error message appears.

Solution

These problems may be fixed in future releases of Synapse TeamWorks/EyeMedia.
