Uploading files with long Japanese file names fails

Product

  • Kodak® InSite™ Creative Workflow and Kodak InSite Asset Library, all versions
  • Kodak TeamWorks and Kodak EyeMedia, all versions

Platform

Dell® PE2800

Operating system

  Microsoft® Windows®

Error

Register of 1 file failed due to non-recoverable error.

Symptoms

When attempting to upload a file with a long Japanese file name, the upload fails during the server processing step with the above error message in the Server Processing upload details window. Uploading of files with shorter Japanese file names seem to work fine.

Cause

The installation of the Oracle® 9.2.0.6 patch on a Creative Workflow/TeamWorks server causes this problem. Systems without this patch can upload files with long Japanese file names successfully.

Solution

Production has been advised to NOT install the Oracle 9.2.0.6 patch on Creative Workflow/TeamWorks servers destined for Japan; they simply install the Oracle 9.2 base software without the patch. If the patch is accidentally installed, you will need to reghost and reinstall the server, as there is no easy way to remove the patch.

To verify whether the patch is installed on the server:

  1. From the Start menu, select Programs > Oracle Installation Products > Universal Installer.
  2. In the Welcome dialog box, click Installed Products.
  3. In the Inventory dialog box, expand Oracle Home > Synapse in the tree structure. If you see the entry Oracle 9iR2 Patch Set 9.2.0.6.0 under Synapse, the patch is installed.
  4. Click Close and then Exit.
  5. When prompted to confirm that you want to exit, click Yes.
