Applets don't run when using Prepress Portal, Creative Workflow, or Asset Library in Safari on an Intel-based Mac [ID: 79039]

Product

  • Kodak® InSite™ Prepress Portal 5.0 or later
  • Kodak InSite 4.5.0.2012 or later
  • Kodak InSite Creative Workflow and Kodak InSite Asset Library 3.0
  • Kodak TeamWorks and Kodak EyeMedia 2.1
  • Kodak TeamWorks and Kodak EyeMedia 2.0

Platform

Intel®-based Macintosh®

Operating system

  Mac OS® X

Symptoms

In InSite 4.5 or TeamWorks and EyeMedia 2.x: Applets such as Smart Review, file upload, file download, and diagnostics don't work when accessing InSite or TeamWorks/EyeMedia through a Safari® Web browser on an Intel-based Macinotosh computer.

In Creative Workflow and Asset Library 3.0: Applets such as file upload, file download, and diagnostics don't work when accessing Creative Workflow/Asset Library through a Safari Web browser on an Intel-based Macintosh computer. (Note that Smart Review does work in 3.0 because in 3.0 Smart Review runs as an auto-downloaded Java application rather than as an applet.)

Cause

Safari is running in Rosetta mode, or the wrong version of Safari is installed. The workstation must be running the Universal Binary version of Safari (not the PowerPC version); the Universal Binary version runs on either Intel-based Macintosh computers or PowerPC-based Macintosh computers.

Solution

Ensure that the correction version of Safari is installed, and that it is not running in Rosetta mode:

  1. In the Finder, browse to Applications and select Safari. From the File menu, select Get Info.
  2. In the Safari Info dialog box, expand the General area.
  3. Kind should appear as either Application (Universal) or Application (PowerPC).
If the application type is Universal, an Open with Rosetta check box should be visible at the bottom of the General area. Ensure that this check box is cleared.
If the application type is PowerPC, no check box is visible. The PowerPC version of Safari does not work with applets, so in this case, you must install the Universal Binary version of Safari instead, and then ensure that the Open with Rosetta check box is not selected.
