Changing the page size for Creative Workflow proof reports [ID: 82179]

Product

  Kodak® InSite™ Creative Workflow 3.0

Platform

PC

Operating system

  Microsoft® Windows®

Symptoms

You want to change the size of the pages that are used when a user generates a proof report from Smart Review or from the Tasks view of a project.

Cause

By default, the proof reports that your users generate through Creative Workflow are output to 8.5 by 11 inch (21 by 29.7 cm) pages. You can change the default page size for proof reports by completing the following procedure.

Examples of the values that you would enter to change the page size to 11 by 17 inches are provided throughout the procedure.

Important: This procedure requires that you edit an .xsl file that controls the layout of the report's content, and a registry value that controls the size of the image placed in the report. You should attempt this procedure only if you are comfortable making changes at this level. If you choose to change the page size of your proof reports, ensure that you keep original backup copies of any files that you modify during the procedure.

Solution

  1. Create some test data by finding a few example files—for example, JPEG, TIF, and PDF files of various sizes and aspect ratios. Upload each file to a project in Creative Workflow, and annotate each file in Smart Review. Generate a proof report for each file, and verify that the proof report generates correctly for each file before you make any changes to the proof report format. You will want to verify each step along the way, so pick one of the sample files as your primary test file and have the Smart Review window open to that file so that you can repeatedly generate a report for that file.

  2. On the Creative Workflow server, browse to
    <data drive>\inetpub\wwwroot\TwAmWebRoot\RUser\rto\
    Creo\en\reports
    .

  3. Make a copy of AnnotationReport.xsl and place it in the same folder. Rename the original file AnnotationReport_original.xsl, and make any changes to the copy. Right-click the copy, select Properties, and clear the Read-only checkbox.

  4. In an XML editor, open the copy of AnnotationReport.xsl.

  5. Near the top of the file, find the settings page-height and page-width. These settings control the height and width of the pages in the proof report. Values are in centimeters. The default values are 29.7cm and 21cm (or 11 and 8.5 inches), respectively.

  6. Change the value of each setting to the desired page size. For example, to change the page size to 11 by 17 inches, enter a height of 43.18cm and a width of 27.94cm.

  7. Save the file.

  8. In Smart Review, generate a proof report for your test file to confirm that the report is still working.

  9. Return to the .xsl file. Further down in the file, find the following code:

    <!-- element image "underneath", scaled to fit, preserving aspect ratio -->
    <fo:block-container position="absolute" top="0mm" width="180mm" height="270mm" >

  10. The width and height values control the size of the space in the report in which to position the element image. Note that the values must be in millimeters in this case. Change these values to be smaller than the page sizes that you entered in step 6. For example, for an 11 by 17 inch page, you might want to set the width of the image space to 229mm (9 inches) and the height to 381mm (15 inches).

  11. Find the following code:

    <!-- rendered annotations over top, transparent background, scaled to fit, preserving aspect ratio -->
    <xsl:if test="annotations/image">
    <fo:block-container position="absolute" top="0mm" width="180mm" height="270mm" >

  12. The width and height values control the placement of annotation graphics on the element image in the report. Change these values to exactly match the values that you entered in step 10.

  13. Save and close the file.

  14. Make a copy of the file AnnotationReport.xsl that you modified, and save the copy in the same folder (<data drive>:\inetpub\
    wwwroot\TwAmWebRoot\RUser\rto\Creo\en\reports
    ) but with a different file name (for example, AnnotationReport_Updated_Copy.xsl).

    The next time that you update your system, any changes that you made to AnnotationReport.xsl will be overwritten. But you can easily reinstate any previous customization by renaming the file AnnotationReport_Updated_Copy.xsl to AnnotationReport.xsl again.

  15. In Smart Review, generate a proof report for your test file to confirm that the report is still working.

  16. Open the Registry Editor. (From the Start menu, select Run. Type regedit, and click OK.)

  17. Browse to the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\
    Creo\Araxi\Settings\Default\TWEB
    .

  18. Double-click the registry key AnnotationReportImageDimensions.

    Tip: You can view the registry key AnnotationReportImageDimensionsComment, just below AnnotationReportImageDimensions, for a brief explanation of the purpose of this key.
    The values in the Value data box control the size of the element image that is placed in the report. The default values are 16.51;22.86 (where 16.51 is the width in cm and 22.86 is the height in cm). Change the values to be smaller than the available image space that you defined in step 10, to ensure that the image will fit in the available space. For example, for an 11 by 17 inch page, you might enter 20;37, where 20 is the width in cm (or 8 inches) and 37 is the height in cm (or 14.5 inches).

    Important: Separate values by a semi-colon (;), not a comma.

  19. Click OK.

  20. Close the Registry Editor.

  21. In Smart Review, generate a proof report for each of the sample files that you gathered in step 1. Confirm that the report works and that the image fits on the page as expected.

  22. Ensure that you save a copy of the modified AnnotationReport.xsl to <data drive>:\inetpub\
    wwwroot\TwAmWebRoot\RUser\rto\Creo\en\reports
    and give the copy a different file name (for example, AnnotationReport_Updated_Copy.xsl) so that you can reinstate any customization the next time you update your system.
