When trying to download Desktop from Internet Explorer 7, download fails with error “Internet Explorer cannot download...” [ID: 82168]

Product

Kodak® InSite™ Creative Workflow, Asset Library, and Variable Data Print, all versions

Platform

PC

Operating system

Microsoft® Windows® XP, 2000, or 2003

Error

Internet Explorer cannot download...Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later.

Symptoms

When you use Microsoft Internet Explorer® 7 Internet browser to download Kodak InSite Desktop from a server that has SSL enabled, the download fails with the above error message. The download is successful if you use Internet Explorer 6 or the Apple® Safari™ Web browser.

Cause

IE 7 has enhanced security compared to IE 6 and Safari, especially in its interaction with servers using SSL.

Solution

  1. In IE 7, select Tools > Internet Options > Advanced.
  2. Under Security, select Do not save encrypted pages to disk. This will enable Desktop to be downloaded.

IMPORTANT: When you select Do not save encrypted pages to disk, you can no longer start Smart Review in the Web browser. Therefore, after downloading and installing Desktop, you must open IE again and clear this option. Alternatively, you can download Desktop for Windows from a Mac® computer and then copy the installer to your Windows computer, or download to your Windows computer using IE 6 instead. Once Desktop is installed, it will be able to successfully upgrade itself without having to change the IE 7 settings.
