NVS Parameter: hdm wpower

Long Name:

wr_laser_power

Applies to:

  • Thermal

  • Description:

Specifies the desired internal write laser setpoint power. This is not necessarily the same as what comes out of the head.

The difference between the desired power and the measured power provides an error signal to the PID controller which determines the current for the write laser diode.

The measured power is the measurement from the laser power sensor converted into Watts using the wpwrcal parameter.

The relationship between the laser diode current and the optical output power varies from diode to diode and over time.

Staccato is implemented using a wide and narrow mode for each media type. The parameter wpower is for wide mode while the parameter wpowern is for narrow mode.

The wpower and wpowern are used in laser ("head lsrmode") modes 0 and 3 while wpowere is used for laser modes 1 and 2.
