Service Engineer Laser Safety Precautions

for the DOLEV 4press/4NEWS

Read these safety precautions carefully before installing, operating or servicing the DOLEV 4press/4NEWS imagesetter.

Read the Operator laser safety precautions for the DOLEV 4press/4NEWS, an indispensable part of the service engineer's precautions.

DANGER!

Even brief exposure of the eyes to the laser beam or its reflections may cause permanent loss or permanent degradation of eyesight.

CAUTION!

Use of controls and/or adjustments, or performance of procedures other than those specified in this manual may result in hazardous radiation exposure.

Safety Instructions for the Service Engineer

  1. Many service procedures can be performed while the imagesetter is switched off. Service the imagesetter while off whenever possible.
  2. Defeat the interlock switches only when no alternative service procedure is available. Many service procedures can be performed while the interlocks are not defeated.
  3. When the interlocks are defeated, hazardous movements of the imagesetter motors, including the carriage, knife and the spinner motor are likely to occur.

Beware not to be exposed to hazardous movements!

Beware not to touch the spinner motor or the prism while they are rotating!

Note:

  1. Avoid defeating the interlock while the fiber optic connectors are disconnected from their mates fastened to the chassis, as the fibers may be free to move and radiate laser light in uncontrolled directions.
  2. To minimize the chance of laser reflection, remove all jewelry, wristwatches and reflective objects from your hands and wrists prior to service.
  3. Wear the laser safety alignment goggles if you are in danger of exposure to the beam or its reflections.
Goggles are: CreoScitex Cat. No. 507B35948.
The goggles are marked: OD 1-2, 400-700 nM, 20 mW.
  4. Make sure that no one near or far can be exposed to the beam.

If the interlocks are defeated, the optical and mechanical assemblies of the imagesetter remain energized and hazardous. In addition to the electrical and mechanical hazards, up to 5 milliwatt of laser power at a wavelength of approximately 650 nanometer may be present at the Static optic assembly output optical connector, Dynamic optic assembly, optical Fibers, optical fibers Connectors and on the inside of the imagesetter Drum; up to 10 milliwatt of laser power at this wavelength may be present inside the Static optic assembly,

THIS LASER RADIATION IS HAZARDOUS TO THE EYE AND SKIN.

DANGER! Avoid exposure to the beam and its reflections!

Notes regarding the use of the laser protection goggles:

Warning Labels

Make sure that all warning labels are in good order, renew warning labels if needed.

Operator Laser Safety Precautions

for the - DOLEV 4press/4NEWS

Read these safety precautions carefully before installing, operating, or maintaining the DOLEV 4press/4NEWS imagesetter.

DANGER!

Even brief exposure of the eyes to the laser beam or its reflections may cause permanent loss or permanent degradation of eyesight.

CAUTION!

Use of controls and/or adjustments, or performance of procedures other than those specified in this manual may result in hazardous radiation exposure.

The DOLEV 4press/4NEWS imagesetter is installed and serviced exclusively by specialized technicians trained in the proper procedures for working with and adjusting the Semiconductor Laser beam power and its optical path.

The imagesetter operator is allowed to perform one maintenance procedure: to remove film (supply media) stuck at the imagesetter drum area.

Upon opening the left or right imagesetter doors, safety interlock switches are provided to disconnect power from the laser and the imagesetter motors.

The operator is forbidden under all circumstances to defeat any of the safety interlock switches!

Film Jams

To remove film (supply media) stuck at the imagesetter drum area, do the following:

If the interlocks are defeated, the optical and mechanical assemblies of the imagesetter remain energized and hazardous; in addition to the electrical and mechanical hazards, up to 5 milliwatt of laser power at a wavelength of approximately 650 nanometer may be present at the Static optic assembly output connector, Dynamic optic assembly, optical Fibers, optical fiber Connector and on the inside of the imagesetter Drum; up to 10 milliwatt of laser power at this wavelength may be present inside the Static optic assembly.

THIS LASER RADIATION IS HAZARDOUS TO THE EYE AND SKIN.

DANGER! Avoid exposure to the beam and its reflections!

Warning Labels

Notify CreoScitex service personnel if warning labels are damaged.
