The shutter blocks the laser beam when the imagesetter is not in exposure mode and when
there are stop spirals.
The shutter assembly (#204) is mounted inside of the lens housing (#107), and is part of
the dynamic optics.
A light detector is installed on the shutter with an intensity read back which goes to the
OMC board.
Important: Hard dust particles left on the mirror cause scratches.
Use a compressed air can to blow away any dust or lint from the optical components.
If compressed air is not available, use a rubber bulb.
Fold a piece of lens tissue repeatedly to the shape of a pad that will fit
the shutter holes.
Clamp the pad with a hemostat soaked with alcohol and gently wipe the mirror
and the solar cell. To access the solar cell, tilt the shutter assembly upside
down.
If the cleaning is not sufficient, dismantle the lower section of the shutter.
Pull out the cover with the mirror.
Clean the mirror and the solar cell and re-assemble the unit. Check that
the mirror is in the correct position.
