Description

The spinner assembly (sheet 1, #202) rotates the penta prism which reflects the laser beam to the surface of the drum.

The spinner assembly contains the encoder assembly (#24), spinner motor assembly (#11), and penta prism (#2).

Test

Before You Start

  1. Prepare a clean surface with a lint free cloth.

  2. Be sure that you have enough free space in and around the machine to pull the assembly out.

  3. Never touch the set of screws that balances the spinner movement.

  4. Identify the fiber optic path. Be careful when working with the fiber. Do not bend, crush or stretch it.

  5. The replacement requires good lighting. Set up a light stand or some other method of providing sufficient lighting.

Tools & Accessories

Set of Allen keys

Spinner centering jig (507C1L231)

Bow Adjustment Jig (280B34187)

This device is attached to the spinner. Its three dial indicators (cat no. 395B10020) allow you to center the newly placed spinner in the same position as the previous spinner.

The adjustment of this device is carried out with the spinner indicator adjuster (cat no. 280A34271). It also requires an adjustment plate jig to move the spinner housing upwards.

Refer to adjustment plate jig. (cat no. 280B33336)

Disassembling the Spinner Assembly

  1. Open the left and right service doors.

  2. Remove the light-proof cover from both sides of the unit.

  3. Enter the diagnostics utility and move the Film Feeder roller to the middle of the drum circumference (400-600 mm).

  4. Send the carriage to end position. (To the right).

  5. Remove the shutter protector (#225)

  6. Release four (4) of the five crews that hold the spinner assembly to the carriage (#205).

  7. Run the diagnostics and return the carriage to Home position.

  8. Power off the imagesetter using the control panel ON/OFF switch.

  9. Release the shutter cable and the fiber optic cable from the clamps (Nos. 206, 207, 208).

  10. Disconnect the spinner connector. Open the encoder cover (#29) and disconnect the internal connector. Refer to bottom right of figure:

  11. Release the remaining screw that holds the spinner housing assembly. This can be referred to as the "positioning screw."

  12. Carefully pull out the assembly and put it on a clean surface.

Assembling the New Spinner Assembly

  1. Put the spinner assembly carefully into place. Pay attention to the focus lens. Do not scratch it.

  2. Assemble the five screws of the spinner housing assembly, but do not tighten them.

  3. Re-connect the spinner connector, encoder connector and the wiring. Secure them.

  4. Close the encoder cover.

  5. Adjust the new assembly. Refer to Adjustment.

Test

  1. To check if the bow linearity and focus is within the specification, expose and measure a grid file .

  2. If the results are not within the specification, perform the bow, linearity and focus adjustment procedures.

Adjustment

  1. Take the Spinner Centering Kit (280B34190) with the three dial indicators. Put  it on the reference jig and adjust the zero points if necessary.

  2. Attach the jig to the spinner housing assembly (be careful with the wiring and the fiber optic cable).

  3. Assemble the lower adjustment plate to the lower part of the spinner assembly holder.

  4. Screw on the plate until it nearly makes contact with the four adjustment screws.

  5. Loosely assemble the fifth screw of the spinner assembly, but not too much (enough to keep the assembly in place).

  6. Screw in the adjustment screws to move the spinner housing assembly to a centricity. The tolerance should be within +/- 20 micron.

  7. Tighten the five spinner housing screws and remove adjustment screws.

  8. Dismantle the Spinner Centering Kit.

  9. Expose a Grid File and measure it. If the Bow error is greater than 30 microns then Perform the Bow Adjustment Procedure.

  10. Measure the Grid and if the Linearity error is greater than 50 microns then perform the Linearity Adjustment Procedure
