The small and medium driver rollers are located on the
loading system. The rollers load the film on the small and medium loading cassette into
the drum.
The set contains two driver rollers, one is made of soft rubber (A35) and has on it a
plastic sprocket and the other is made of hard rubber (A70) and has on it the opposite
plastic sprocket and a metal sprocket connected via the chain to the motor that drives the
set.
A minimum of two engineers are required for the procedure.
The explanation below is for the small rollers. It is almost identical to the procedure
for the medium rollers, except for the position of the rollers.
Power off the Imagesetter using the control panel ON/OFF
switch.
Open the side service doors and the protective covers.
Open the loading system doors and remove the three film
loading cassettes.
Open the loading system track locks. Pull the unit forward
until the wheels catch on the tracks. Remove the right cover.
Disconnect the cable connectors.
Disassemble the lever by opening the lever side bracket
screws.
Dismantle the springs from both sides. The springs are
assembled in pairs.
Dismantle the E-rings from the drive shafts.
Disassemble the base of the medium and small film cassette
compartments.
Disassemble the four screws securing the small cassette motor
(#82) to the assembly. Shift it in the direction of the drive shaft and pull the motor
out.
Note: Take special care not to damage the chain that drives the driver rollers.
Assemble the rubber roller jig 280A34180 on the drive shaft
and pull the drive shaft gently out. Pay attention to collect the Dellerin and the metal
spacers that lie between the driver rollers.
Take out the driver rollers and put them to the side.
Take the new driver rollers. Check that the sprockets are not
damaged, that the rubber has no holes in it, and that the rollers are straight.
A good check is to put it on a flat table and check for straightness while rolling the
roller around its axis.
Check that the sprockets are securely attached and that the nylon flanges are sitting in
their place.
Put the drive shaft back in place. Pay attention to assemble
the rollers, Dellerin, washers and the metallic spacers in the correct order.
Use the other end of the rubber roller jig (280A34180) to center the washers and the
spacers in place. Do not forget to assemble the chain on the sprocket.
Assemble the 6-rings on the drive shafts.
Assemble the motor (4 screws). Check that the chain is sitting
properly and is tight.
Assemble each of the springs on the drive shafts.
Re-assemble the base on the bottom of the cassette
compartment. Check that the flipper shelf works smoothly and that the rollers are not
visible when the shelf is closed. When you open the flipper completely, you see that the
there is a gap of several millimeters between the rollers.
Assemble the lever back into place.
Assemble the loading system into place, connect the cable
connectors and close the track locks.
Put the film loading cassettes back into their compartment.
