Align to Punch - Dolev 800

B. Paltiel
March 2, 1995

1. Punch Offset Calculation (H- Direction)
2. Punch Offset Calculation (W Direction)
3. Installation

1. Punch Offset Calculation (H- Direction)

The way the punch offset is calculated (H direction) for the BOTTOM point are
HOST calculate the H offset as
HOST OFFSET = BOTTOM - HLE SIZE
THE D800 calculation is-TRUE OFFSET =
HOST OFFSET +(FILM END - FILM SIZE + CASSETTE H MARGIN)

The FILM END,CASSETTE H MARGIN are from the PLOTTER SETTING clause in the NVM. (In the plotter coordinate system)

The FILM SIZE is from the CASSETTE MVM.

PROBLEMS:
IF FILM SIZE =750,BOTTOM=812 FILE SIZE=700 FILM END=915
CASSETTE H MARGIN=5
HOST OFFSET = 812-700=112
TRUE OFFSET =112 +(915-750+5)=282
The plot will end at 282+700=982!! (5mm after the film end ) or here comes the EP DETECTED DURING PLOT error

Conclusion:

  1. The bottom point is relative to the film size.
  2. In order to control the punch location change the FILM END PARAMETER.

2. Punch Offset Calculation (W Direction)

In the case of the W direction the calculation is done in the host as follows:
W OFFSET = CENTER - FILE SIZE/2 (this is for the CENTER point)

PROBLEM:
If CENTER= 519.5, FILE SIZE = 1040
W OFFSET=519.5-520 = -0.5
This is A BUG ! (NO ERROR MESSAGE)
The DOLEV will plot blank film.

3. Installation

a.     Create a LW file 812 x 1117 (if the film is smaller create a smaller file)
b.     Plot the file using ALIGN TO PUNCH with TL point.
c.     Now you know the relation between the full EXPOSE AREA and the PUNCH.
d.    To move the EXPOSE AREA change the FILM END in the NVM (increase to move to the direction of         the PUNCH ).
e.     If you run into the "EP DETECTED" call me!
