  1. Reason For Change
The unsealed Light Detector enabled dust to enter, despite periodic cleaning.
The dust covering the optic lens and the electrical board shortened the field life of the light detector.

  2. Description of Change
Replace the unsealed Light Detector with a sealed one.

  3. Change Procedure

Replacing the Light Detector

  1. From the application, send the Carriage Motor to the 300 position.
  2. Open the rear door and the upper back cover.
  3. Shut down the application and the machine.
  4. Disconnect the Light Detector Connector wiring from the Light Detector.

  5. Open the four screws on the Light Detector with a 3/32" Allen key.

  6. Remove the Laser Protective Cover from the Light Detector.

  7. Before installing the new Light Detector, record its LDT Factor. You will enter this number in the registry later.
  8. Check the lens to make sure that there are no fingerprints on it. If there are, clean it with alcohol and acetone.
  9. Put Loctite 242 on the ends of each Allen screw.
  10. Re-Install the Light Detector with its Laser Protective Cover by tightening the four screws.
  11. Check that the Light Detector does not touch the Tail Gripper bar.
  12. Re-connect the Light Detector Connector.
  13. Turn on the machine.
  14. Close the upper back cover and the rear door.
  15. Log on to the application. The Carriage automatically returns to HP.
  16. Check the application to make sure that the machine is in ready state.
