Fans - cleaning

  1. Check that all the drum screws are secured with red paint, and that the paint is not broken.

  1. Clean all the Fans, as shown below.

  1. Visually check the machine for any residue.

DETECTORS

Dust, especially ablation dust, coming from plate exposure can reduce detector performance and reliability. The frequency of detector maintenance depends upon machine use and plate type. (Kodak plate users should perform this procedure more frequently.)

Clean the following detectors with rice paper and alcohol:

DRUM DETECTORS

LASER SYSTEM
AUTO LOADER LOADING SYSTEM
UNLOADING SYSTEM

LENS PROTECTOR

The frequency of lens protector maintenance depends on machine use and the plate type. (Kodak plate users should perform this procedure more frequently.)

  1. From the GUI, select Utilities>Hardware>Expose Eystem>Carriage System
  2. Double-click Carriage Motor.
  3. In the Carriage Motor dialog box, run the carriage to end position (EP).
  4. From the GUI, select Routine Function>Open Rear Door.
  5. Shut down the machine.
  6. Turn off the air supply to the machine.
  7. Disconnect both blue air hoses from the Plate Down valve in the unloading assembly .
  1. Disconnect both connectors from the right side of the assembly and one connector from the left side of the assembly

  2. Disassemble the light cover (held by 2 screws).

  3. Release 4 screws (10x32) holding assembly 2 from each side.

  4. Raise the left side of the assembly while paying attention to the motor wiring on the right hand side. Pull the assembly out (left and then out).
  5. Do Not Remove The Lens Protector !!!
(Removing the lens protector may affect the focus).

  6. Using rice paper (cleaning tissue) and alcohol, clean the lens protector.
Be careful not to scratch the lens protector.
  7. Reassemble the unloading system connectors, hoses and covers
in reverse order to the way you disassembled them.

OP AIR SUPPLY (FUFU)

Replace the optic air supply (fufu) filter every 12 months.

Filter P/N - 342A10305.

Vacuum Pump

A clogged vacuum filter can reduce the amount of vacuum, and may cause problems with
plate attachment to drum. Perform maintenance on the pump regularly to achieve best operating results.
Maintenance intervals depend on the pump's use and ambient conditions.

Replace the filter every 12 months.

  1. From the GUI, select Routine Function>Open Rear Door.
  2. Shut down the machine.
  3. Remove the Back panel by releasing the 2 screws (10x32) as shown in the picture below.
  4. The Vacuum Pump is located at the bottom of the machine.
The filter cartridge is inserted behind the enclosure cover

  5. Remove the enclosure cover from the Vacuum pump by releasing the 3 screws shown in the picture below.
  6. Replace the filter.

  7. To check the vacuum pump blades, remove the blades cover by opening the four Allen screws (see Figure 4).
  8. Pull out the seven vacuum pump blades one by one (see Figure 5).

  9. Using an external air pressure hose, clean the inner areas of the vacuum pump.
  10. Measure the vacuum pump blades with a caliber. The width should be greater than 27mm.

  11. If the width of any of the vacuum pump blades is less than 27 mm, replace all the blades in the set with a new set (P/N 510K3R284).
Important: Insert the vacuum pump blades with the curved edge fitting into the housing curve (see Figure 7).

  12. Secure the blades cover by tightening the four Allen screws.
  13. Reassemble the parts in reverse order.

SWIVEL

  1. From the GUI, select Routine Function>Open Rear Door.
  2. Open the right side door
To open the door, press the latch down while pushing the door in, as shown below.
  1. Open the right light cover held by 2 screws

  2. Lubricate the swivel with 4-5 drops of SAE 30 motor oil. Do this every 3 months.

  3. Close the cover and the doors.

ROLLERS (Disposal, Loading, Unloading trays)

Clean all rollers with a clean cloth and Super Rubber Rejuvenator

DISPOSAL rollers (MCUR only)

UNLOADING SYSTEM rollers
LOADING TRAY rollers

Clean all of the rollers

DRUM HOLES

Use the drill from the accessory kit to clean drum holes.

V BLOCK & FELT OILING

To apply oil to the felt:
  1. Send the carriage to middle position.
  2. Open the relevant doors and panels to allow access to the V-block.
  3. If relevant, remove the unload tray.
  4. Remove the four screws that secure the oil brackets (2 on each bracket) and remove the oil brackets.
Note: Keep the screws, they are used again later in this procedure.
  5. Dispose of the oil brackets.
  6. Clean off any oil and dirt from the V-block.
  7. Using 70% alcohol, clean the V-block to prevent ablation residue and dirt from being absorbed into the oil.
  8. In each new oil bracket, apply 3 cc silicon oil evenly along each felt.
    Note: Platesetters have four felts.
  9. After applying the oil, allow the felt to absorb the oil for 2-5 minutes.
  10. Insert the oil brackets, and insert, but do not tighten, the screws that you removed in step 4.
Note: Use Loctite® 242 on the screws.
  11. Carefully push the brackets downward to allow the felt to be lightly pressed against the V-block (or carriage beam).
Important: do not exert high force on the bracket.
  12. Tighten the screws on the oil brackets.
  13. Send the carriage along the beam at least once.
  14. If relevant, install the unload tray.
  15. Close all panels and doors.

XY RAILS

Important: Perform this XY rails maintenance procedure every 6 months to obtain best performance of the machine.

  1. From the GUI, select Routine Function>Open Rear Door.
  2. Insert a motor cheater for the front door.
  3. From the GUI, select Release loader.
  4. Disassemble the front cover by removing 4 screws (8x32) as shown in the picture below.

  5. Disassemble both left and right side covers by releasing one nut (10x32) from the top
and two screws from the front (see picture below).

  6. Disassemble the top cover by releasing two nuts (10x32) from the top
and two Philips screws on the front of the cover.
  7. From the GUI, select Utilities>Hardware>Loading System.
  8. Double-click Loading System.
  9. In the Loading System dialog box, perform INIT XY (2).
  10. Remove the motor cheater.
  11. Use a dispenser to apply a thin layer of grease to both
the left and right X-axis tunnels.

  12. Insert the motor cheater.
  13. Select the Hardware>Loading System>Loading Plate to Drum.
  14. Select X System, and then double-click X Motor.
  15. Move the X Motor to Position 800, and then move it to Home Position.
  16. Repeat step 14 again to spread the grease evenly on the X axis tunnels.
  17. Move the X Motor to Position 500 (parallel to the plate ramp).
  18. Remove the motor cheater.
  19. Use a dispenser to apply thin layer of grease to both the left and the right Y-axis tunnels.

  20. Insert the motor cheater.
  21. Move the X Motor to position 450.
At this position, the suction cups are above the plate ramp.
  22. Move the Y Motor to position 130, and then to Home Position.
  23. Repeat step 22 to spread the grease evenly on the Y-axis tunnels.
  24. In the Loading System dialog box, perform INIT XY (2). (See steps 7-8 above.)
  25. Reassemble the covers in reverse sequence.
