FCO 27847 - "Needle Bearing For Gripper", must be implemented with FCO 27648

1. Reason For Change

2. Description of Change

1. Replace all the head gripper assembly.
2. Replace the existing head spoilers with spring spoilers.

3. Change Procedure

  1. Open the two screws on each assembly to remove all the gripper assemblies from drum (see picture no. 1).
  2. Use a piece of cloth with alcohol to clean the surface of the drum from loctite and silicon remnants (see picture no. 2).
  3. Clean also the holes and the threads.

Note: Use loctite 242 on all screws and tighten with a torqmeter 20 (in/lb)

  1. Assemble 7 new head gripper assy. on the center of the drum (see picture no. 3).

  1. Assemble all the new spring spoilers, except the two side spoilers on the drum (see picture no. 3). Assemble the spiral and stopper pin spoilers last (see pictures no. 4&5) and positioning them according to the marks you made earlier.

Note: Press the grippers with your hands and make sure the spoilers are moving up and down freely, without touching the screws head.

  1. Assemble the side head gripper's assy (see picture no.6).
  2. Use a Philips sunken screw to install the two levers (see picture no. 6).
  3. 12. Assemble the two spring levers (right & left) on the side gripper assy. Use a Philips sunken screw, springs l/w & nuts on the edge of the drum (see picture no. 6).

Note: Make sure the levers are lifting the spring spoiler and that they are not touching the drum surface.

  1. Implement FCO 27847 before going to the testing step.
  1. Test Procedure

  1. Try to insert 0.05 (mm) shim between the spring spoiler and the drum, while the grippers are not activated (see picture no. 8). If the shims is going in freely then the spring spoiler must be replaced.
  2. Check the right and the left grippers, by trying to insert 0.05 (mm) shim between the drum and the two sides of the gripper (see pictures no. 9 & 10), if the shim is going in freely: use the jig for adjusting the lever.

  1. Remove the lever from the drum and install it on the jig, make sure the screws are tighten (see picture no. 11).

Using the jig for final adjustment (pictures no. 11 &12)

  1. Try to insert the 0.5 (mm) shim between the lever and the jig, from one side to the other.
  1. Try to insert the 1 (mm) shim between the lever and the jig, from one side to the other

  1. Remove the lever from the jig and place it in a fixed vise.
  2. Tap slightly on the lever in order to reduce the angle of the lever.
  3. Reassemble the lever on the jig and repeat step no. 4, if O.K. go to step no. 5.
  4. Tap slightly on the lever in order to enlarge the angle of the lever.
  5. Reassemble the lever on the jig and repeat step no. 4 & 5.
  6. Reassemble the lever back on to the drum and continue with the test procedure.
  7. Place the head grippers under the unload gripper actuator.
  8. From the GUI, activate the gripper actuator. Make sure the head gripper opens correctly.
  9. Repeat the test with the load gripper actuator.
  10. Make sure that the notch on the plate is adjusted against the spiral pin on the drum. If it's not, then make an adjustment.
  11. Load plates from sizes 0.15 to 0.3 (mm). Make sure that the plates are attached to the pins on the drum. If they are not, make an adjustment (see picture no. 13).
  12. Load full format plate and check the attachment at the edge of the plate near the head grippers.

Note: To check pins attachment, look at it from straight-ahead and not from above (like with the old spoilers).

  1. Close all the doors.
  2. Expose a file and make sure the image is parallel and o.k. According to the customer needs, if not follow the spiral adjustment procedure.
