Lotem 800 interlocks and solenoids fail to respond

Product

Lotem® 800

Component

Power failure protector board assembly (part number 503-00020B).

Symptoms

After installing a power failure protector board on a Lotem 800 platesetter (FCO #512-03310A), one or all of the following components may fail to respond:

  • Rear door solenoids
  • Interlocks
  • Cassette valve sensor
  • Vibration sensor
  • Fly off sensor

Cause

Due to the fact that the failure protector board is situated between the distribution box (J4 connector) and the remainder of the Lotem’s wiring, a fault with one of the board’s Molex® pins could prevent power from reaching a vital component.

Solution

Do the following to verify if the power failure protector board is preventing power from reaching vital components:

  1. Measure the electrical current passing through the pins of the non-responsive solenoid/interlock/sensor.
If a 24 V current is detected, it suggests that one of the pins is prevented from being grounded to zero.
  2. To further isolate the problem, check the J4 connector located on the distribution box.
After performing a command, check for a RET signal. An absence of any RET signal would suggest that a pin has been short circuited. Therefore the problem must be directly related to the power failure board.
