RCON startup failure, drum in error state, and the Magnus 400 Controller software does not start on Magnus 400 and Magnus 200 platesetters

Product

  • Kodak® Magnus™ 400
  • Kodak Magnus 400E
  • Kodak Magnus 200

Cause

The IP addresses for the Magnus 400 PC, the master control electronics (MCE) board on a Magnus 400 platesetter, and the dial-up modem were changed to enable remote access to other Kodak devices on the customer's network.

Solution

Warning: Do not change any IP address on the Magnus 400. The Kodak Magnus 400 Controller software is hardwired to connect to the 169.254.255.110 address.
The MCE's IP address must be 169.254.255.110 for the Kodak Magnus 400 Controller software to communicate with it.

Configuring the Modem to Allow Remote Access to the PC

Do not change or add any IP addresses. The dial-up modem connects to one of the IP addresses within the range of addresses assigned to the dial-up modem connection (between 169.254.255.100 and 169.254.255.110) where 100 is assigned to the PC, 101 is assigned to the modem, and 110 is assigned to the MCE board.

To verify the connection, after configuring the dial-up modem on the platesetter, perform a ping command to the Magnus PC and MCE addresses. Each reply should return the correct IP address.

To verify the dial-up connection, you must ping to the Magnus 400 dial-up IP address via a remote connection. The reply should return the correct Magnus 400 dial-up IP address.

Note: If you changed the IP address, you must perform a cold start installation to resolve the problem.
