Magnus 800 platesetter diagnostic software

Product

Kodak® Magnus™ 800 platesetter

Background

This release of the Magnus 800 diagnostic software may only be used to test the Magnus 800 platesetter. Future software releases will also be able to test the Magnus 800 multi-cassette autoloader and the Magnus 800 single-cassette autoloader.
The diagnostic software tests the following components:

Electronics:

  • Power supply
  • MSB

Platesetter components:

  • Punch system
  • Valve presence
  • Drum motor and plate handling, including balance, LEC, TEC and rollers
  • Loading and unloading systems
  • Alignment system
  • Carriage system

In addition, the diagnostic software contains utilities for checking the platesetter hood and platform, the state of the interlock system, and operator intervention tasks, for example the loading and unloading platform’s plate detectors.

Before the diagnostic software tests the platesetter, it runs a series of pretests which checks the following required test prerequisites:

  • Correct voltage settings for the detectors and 24 V interlocks
  • Correct air pressure
  • State of relevant detectors
  • State of relevant valves used for checking the connectivity between the MSB and the valve to ensure its presence.

If the pretest fails, a report is generated describing the failures and the test is aborted.

Magnus 800 diagnostic software known issues

  1. If you attempt to run the diagnostic software on a platesetter that is turned off, the Magnus 800 diagnostic software freezes in the initialization (Init) mode.
To resolve this issue, perform the following actions:
    1. Locate the Windows Task Manager dialog box.
    2. Click the Process tab.
    3. In the Image Name column, select Orendiag.exe.
    4. Click End process.
  2. If the MSB is incorrectly installed and/or the MSB is disconnected from the mother board, the diagnostic software freezes in the Init mode. To resolve this issue, perform the same actions as described in the previous step (Locate the Windows Task Manager dialog box etc.)
  3. If the platesetter generates a recovery message during the initialization process, the Magnus 800 Controller software and the diagnostic software both freeze in the Init mode. To resolve this issue, perform the following actions::
    1. In the Magnus 800 Controller software, recover from the software generated recovery message.
    2. Restart the Magnus 800 diagnostic software.
  4. If there is a plate located on either one of the six platesetter stations, and you attempt to run the Magnus 800 diagnostic software, the diagnostic software fails to perform the testing process.
  5. The Magnus 800 diagnostic software does not test the drum vacuum pump.

Procedure

Initializing Process

Before running the diagnostic's software initialization process, the operator must remove any plates located either inside the platesetter, on the loading/unloading platform, or wrapped on the drum.

The diagnostic software's initialization process takes between 1 to 3 minutes. During the initialization process a warning dialog box appears, offering the operator the following options:

  • Raise Hood: Raise the hood and enables the operator to check for the presence of plates beneath the hood.
  • Raise Platform: Raise the loading platform and enables the operator to check for the presence of plates beneath the loading platform.
  • No Plate: Run the diagnostic test as there are no plates located either in the platesetter or on the loading/unloading platform.
  • Skip Machine Diag: Terminate the test and re-enable the movement of the platesetter's subsystems.

The software also offers the option of testing the punch system, even if the punches are disabled.

Testing Cycle

The diagnostic software takes approximately 30 minutes to complete one full test cycle, depending on the selected test utilities.
