Kodak Magnus 800 platesetter

Symptoms

When a large plate fails to register on the drum, the retry process is automatically activated. However, the retry process also fails, resulting in the plate colliding with the back of the loading platform, and in some cases buckling under the hood.

Cause

The retry process failure may be caused by an incorrect value assigned to the relevant speed and timeout parameters.

Solution

1. Check the values assigned to the speed parameter and timeout parameter. If either of these values are set to their default values then the retry process may fail when attempting to load large plates.
   1. Locate the relevant speed parameter:
      HKEY_LOCAL-MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Kodak\Projects\Magnus800\Software systems\Loading system\Parameters\Loading Platform\ Loading platform motor plate alignment speed [mm/sec].
   2. The parameter’s default value is 150. Reduce the existing value to 75.
   3. Locate the relevant timeout parameter:
      HKEY_LOCAL-MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Kodak\Projects\Magnus800\Software systems\Loading system\ Parameters\Drum\Max time for plate to touch drum registration pins [msec].
   4. The parameter’s default value is 6000. Increase the parameter’s existing value to 12000.

   Note: If you want the amended parameters to take effect immediately (as opposed to restarting Magnus 800 Controller software) amend the value of the Refresh Scripts for Debug parameter (HKEY_LOCAL-MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Kodak\Projects\Magnus800\Software systems\Loading system\Refresh Scripts for Debug) from 0 to 1.

2. Load a large plate. If the retry process continues to fail, then further reduce the speed parameter from 75 to 50, and reload the same plate.
