Drum registration system fails to detect plates on the Magnus 800 platesetter

Product

Kodak Magnus 800 platesetter

Symptoms

The plate loading sequence fails between the loading platform and drum entry.

Cause

The drum registration system failure may be caused by any of the following factors:

  • Badly cut or misshapen plate
  • Registration pins harness
  • Dirty registration pins
  • Loading platform positioned at an incorrect height
  • LEC actuator may fail to open the LECs
  • Drum registration detectors failed to recognize a plate during the retry loading process

Solution

To resolve the problem of plates failing to register on the drum, check the following components (in the order listed):

Plate: Make sure that the plate is cut correctly, that it is not misshapen, and that none of its corners are bent. If required, try loading a new plate with the same dimensions.

Registration pins: Make sure the registration pins are clean. Dirty pins may prevent the device from registering the presence of a plate on the loading platform.

Registration pins harness: Use an ohmmeter to check whether the registration pins harness is working correctly. If required, order a new harness.

Loading platform: Ensure that the loading platform is correctly adjusted in relation to the Magnus 800 platesetter.

LEC actuator: Ensure that the LEC actuator is opening the LECs.

Drum registration detectors: Amend the relevant speed and timeout parameters.
