# 40243 - Load table: Stepper motor did not reach the sensor it was searching for [sensor #].

Product

Magnus VLF Autoloader

Component

Load table.

Error

  # 40243 - Load table: Stepper motor did not reach the sensor it was searching for [sensor #].

Symptoms

The plate[s] are being moved by the load table into the LEC. The registration system does not detect the plate at the registration pins.

Cause

  Possible causes include:
  • The plate is wavy or has bent corners that prevent entry to the LEC.
  • The plate edge is lifted up during entry to the LEC preventing entry to the LEC.
  • The plates are loaded incorrectly in the MCU cassette bay.
  • The electronic registration system has failed.

Solution

  1. Open the rear and front hood and turn the hazard key to the mechanical hazard mode.
  2. Consider enabling load table step enable and engine step enable to be able to control and inspect each state easier during the load.
  3. Queue a plate load [single or dual]; whichever one[s] normally generate the error.
  4. Watch the plate[s] approach the LEC.
Question 1: As the plate approaches the LEC, is the plate flat on top of the load table front beam or is it lifted up somewhere on the leading edge?
Question 2: As the plate enters the LEC, is the plate parallel to the LEC or rotated clockwise [CW] or counter clockwise [CCW]?
  5. Check which sensor is included in the description (0, 1, or 2).

If the answer to question 1 above is yes:

  1. Check if the plate is wavy or has bent corners that prevent entry to the LEC.
    • If plate is wavy, remove the plate and rotate the plates in the cassette bay or on the pullout load table during loading.
    • If plate has a bent corner, inspect the box or cassette bay of plates for damage.
      >If plate corner bend is small, rotate plates in cassette bay or on pullout load table during loading.
      >If plates are damaged or significantly bent, discard plates.
  2. Check the firmware code version if it is older than 1.08.05 or Controlled Release 1.1. The changes include lowering the vacuum cups before the plate passes over the load table front beam and stack shift [plate length] sensor, this prevents the plate corner from getting caught on the front beam.
    • Upgrade Firmware to version 1.08.05 or higher.

If the answer to question 2 above is yes, check the sensor # referred to in the error description.

  1. For sensor 1 or 2 (6pin):
    • LtoR MCU away plate, check if plates are loaded correctly in the cassette or on the pullout load table.
    • RtoL MCU away plate
      >Check if the plates are loaded CCW in the cassette or on the pullout load table.
      >Check the fetcher for loose bearings or fasteners.
  2. For sensor 0 in the error message (4 or 6 pin):
    • LtoR MCU home plate, check if the plates are loaded CCW in the cassette or on the pullout load table.
    • LtoR MCU center plate
      >Check if plates are loaded CCW in cassette (possibly CW) or on pullout load table.
      >Check fetcher for loose bearings or fasteners.
    • RtoL MCU home plate, check if the plates are loaded CCW in the cassette or on the pullout load table.
    • RtoL MCU center plate, check if plates are loaded CW in cassette or on pullout load table.

Checking the electronic registration system.

To determine which pin circuit is causing the registration error, load several plates using the Continuous Load (manual bypass) table and follow the instructions below.

Test option 1

  1. 6 pin registration system - load a large plate on pins 3 and 4.
    • If a single plate centered on 697 mm pins is successful: Load plates on pins 1 and 3 , 4 and 6.
      • If it fails on dual plates, look for the plate that is not generating registration (for home plate: check pins 1 and 2; for away plate: check pins 5 and 6).
      • If it succeeds on dual plates, the electrical part of the registration system is working.
    • If a single plate centered on 697 mm pins fails: Check pins 3 and 4
  2. 4 pin registration system - load a large plate on pins 3 and 4.
    • If a single plate centered on 697 mm pins fails, load a medium plate on pins 1 and 3.
      1. If a single plate on 504 mm registration fails, load a small plate on pins 2 and 3.
        • If a single plate on 280 mm registration fails, check all pins 1, 2, 3, and 4.
        • If a single plate on 280 mm registration is successful, check pins 1 and 4.
      2. If a single plate on 504 mm registration is successful, check pin 1.
    • If a single plate on 697 mm registration is successful, load 1 medium plate on pins 1& 3.
      1. If a single plate on 504 mm registration fails, check pin 2.
      2. If a single plate on 504 mm registration is successful, load 1 plate on pins 2 &3.
        • If a single plate on 280 mm registration fails, check pin 3.
        • If a single plate on 280 mm registration is successful, it would appear that the electrical part of the registration system is working.

Test option 2

  1. Cut a piece of printing plate large enough to cover three contact on the contact block. Tape the piece of plate alum side up onto the contact block over pins 1 to 3.
  2. Initialize the drum.
  3. If the device error on a detected short across pins 1-2 or 1-3 then you know that the electronic registration system for those pins is working.
  4. Repeat for pins 4 to 6.
