Neslab Chiller Pressure Too High (>40 psi)

Applies to

  • Neslab CFT33D chiller used with 1.7x Thermal Exposure Head

Problem

The coolant pressure in the Neslab chiller is higher than the 40 psi required for the 1.7x head. To determine what the pressure is:
  1. Disconnect the outlet line from the chiller.
  2. Briefly turn on the chiller and observe the pressure gauge reading. The gauge reads higher than 40 psi, the pressure regulator needs to be adjusted as described below.

Causes and solutions

  Cause:

The chiller pressure was incorrectly set too high at the factory.

Solution:

  1. Access the pressure regulator by removing either the reservoir cover or the entire chiller shell. The regulator has a threaded brass shaft with a screwdriver slot in the end and a jam nut.

  1. Loosen the jam nut.
  2. With the outlet line still disconnected, turn on the chiller and turn the adjusting screw to adjust the pressure to 40 psi.
  3. Turn off the chiller and tighten the jam nut.
