Installing the drum brake on ThermoFlex Narrow

Product

  • Kodak® ThermoFlex® Narrow platesetter
  • ThermoFlex Narrow Hybrid
Note: This procedure is not relevant for devices with the offset option.

Background

This procedure describes how to install the drum brake to improve the loading process, by enabling the operator to immobilize the drum while loading a plate.

Note: This procedure is not mandatory. Install the drum brake only on customer request.

The drum brake assembly consists of two parts:

  • Bracket: Replaces the existing bracket to which the top door's right piston is assembled
  • Brake assembly: Fits around the drum axle

Requirements

  • Brake assembly (part number 500-01879A)
  • Two people are required for this procedure, since you must remove the piston that holds the top door open.

Procedure

Before you begin:

In the ThermoFlex Controller software, open the top door, and then shut down the platesetter and disconnect the main power.

Uninstalling the existing bracket assembly:

Note: When you uninstall the existing bracket, you must remove the piston, so someone must hold the top door open.

  1. Remove the R-pin from the existing right piston bracket.
  1. Remove the pin with its two spacers from the piston, and then remove the piston.
  2. Remove the six hex screws that secure the piston bracket and remove the bracket.
  3. Install the new piston bracket and secure it with the six hex screws that you removed in step 3.
  4. Insert the piston, thread the pin with its two spacers through the piston opening, and secure the pin with the R-pin.

Installing the brake assembly:

On the right side of the drum, near the axle, is a base upon which you install the brake assembly. Three of the four holes in the base align with the brake assembly.

  1. Before you insert the brake assembly, make sure that the "handle" is in the vertical position.
  2. Insert the brake assembly so that the arc circles the drum axle and the three holes in the brake assembly bracket are aligned with the holes on the base.
  3. Insert and tighten the three hex screws.

Test

Load a plate and operate the brake to keep the drum immobile while you are loading the plate, as described in ThermoFlex Narrow With Magnetic Drum Loading and Unloading Procedures.
